Anne Elizabeth McHugh, age 88 of Morley, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2011 in Big Rapids. She was born March 14, 1923 in Big Rapids a first generation American to Baptista and Selma (Buser) Bechaz. Anne married John S. McHugh on June 19, 1948 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Big Rapids. She helped beside her husband John on their family's dairy farm in Morley. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Appolonia Catholic Church then Christ the King Catholic Church in Howard City where she helped with the Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the American Legion Post #554 Women's Auxiliary of Morley and a volunteer grandparent at Stanwood Elementary until her health declined. Anne enjoyed traveling to Europe to meet her relatives in Switzerland and several trips to Las Vegas. She loved to play bingo and instilled a love of reading to her family, whose members include, children, Sue Ferguson of Sparta, Pat (Nancy) McHugh of Morley, Peggy (Gary) Dubridge of Morley, Karen (Kenneth) Mowan of Kalamazoo; 9 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Anthony Engler) Ferguson and Amy Ferguson, Christopher (Julia Fleming) McHugh, Melissa (Jake Fuller) McHugh, Charles (Rachel Hon) McHugh and Chad (Jessica Fricke) McHugh, Bradley (Kelli Thrush) Dubridge and Amanda (Tony) Bisbee, Nicholas Mowan; 7 great-grandchildren, Joal Hon, Nicholas Fricke, Connor and Carly Dubridge, Cole, Anna and John Bisbee; sisters, Rosie Hathaway, Margie Bulgarella; Inlaws, Erma Bechaz, Jane Bechaz, Red (Elaine) Baumauk and Sam Guiliano; special friends, Lee (Tom) Reminga, Linda Vandyke, Val Lyons and many nieces and nephews. Anne was preceded in death by her beloved husband John McHugh on August 3, 2008; four brothers Oswald, Joe, George and Aldo; four sisters Ida, Inez, Caroline and Elsie. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Howard City with Father James Wyse officiating. Burial will be at St. Appolonia Cemetery in Morley. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, April 19th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A rosary will be prayed prior to visitation at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in Anne's name may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., American Heart Assoc. or Christ the King Catholic Church.
