Anna May Leiter, age 63 of Paris, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2008 at The Laurels of Mt. Pleasant. She was born June 29, 1944 in Stanwood to Raymond and Gladys (Butler) Hatchew. Anna grew up in the Big Rapids area. She lived most of her life in Paris where she owned and operated a dairy farm with her husband former Raymond Leiter. Anna had a life long passion for horses. She and Ray owned and raced quarter horses and also raised appaloosas. Anna was the leader of the Knight Riders 4-H horse club of Big Rapids. It began as one of the largest horse clubs in the area. In 1981 Anna survived her last ride; the accident changed her life forever. Anna will always be remembered as a thoughtful, active and loving mother by her 2 children; Tammy (Noland Sr.) Pierce of Blanchard and Brad (Jaane`) Leiter of Sand Lake, 4 grandchildren; Noland Pierce Jr., Kendra May Pierce, Taylor Ann Leiter and Brandon Ray Leiter, a sister; Jean Hatchew of Grand Rapids, step-sister; Lois Stargard of California and several nieces and nephews. Anna was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Philip and John Hatchew. A memorial service will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2008 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Tim Eldred officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services. Memorial contributions in Anna's name may be given to her family.
