Anna Mae Garner, age 88, of Big Rapids, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids. She was born in Bluffton, Indiana on March 1, 1924, the daughter of Dennis and Mary (Johnson) Addington. Anna Mae graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1942. She married Donald M. Larsen on September 25, 1943 in Big Rapids where they made their home and raised their family until Don's passing in 1969. On April 1, 1974 Anna Mae married Roy E. Garner and they enjoyed 35 years of marriage until his passing in 2009. Anna Mae was a waitress for several years before finding her calling as a Stanley Home Products saleswoman. She was passionate about Stanley products earning her various top sales rep awards. Anna Mae enjoyed socializing and has been actively involved with the Mecosta County Commission on Aging playing euchre two times a week for the last 1 years in Mecosta. When she was able she also enjoyed dancing and knew the words to most church hymns. Anna Mae is survived by a son, Mike (Char) Larsen of Big Rapids; 2 daughters, Patricia (Larry) Willett of Grand Rapids and Chris Miller of Big Rapids; 3 step-sons, Jerry (Conda) Garner of Big Rapids, Joe (Kathy) Garner of Big Rapids and Jack (Lynn) Garner of FL; a step-daughter, Betty Ann Garner of CA; two brothers, Walter (Elianor) Addington and Bob (Ellen) Addington; one sister, Edith Jonsson; 9 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 10 step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Anna Mae was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Donald Mikkel Larsen and Roy E. Garner; two sons, Richard Dean Larsen and Rex Allen Larsen; a son-in-law, Joe Miller; three brothers, Raymond, George and Ernie and one sister, Lucille Noreen. A memorial service will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2012 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids conducted by Bill Routley. The family will greet friends on Friday, August 10th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions in Anna Mae's name be made to the Mecosta County Commission on Aging or the American Heart Association.
