Alvin K. "Buzz" Torry, age 81 of Big Rapids, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018. He was born January 4, 1937 in Reed City the son of William and Viola (Gaedcke) Torry. Alvin was honorably discharged from the United States Army serving in the 11th Airborne Division during the Korean War. Alvin worked and lived in the Big Rapids area most of his adult life. He had been a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Big Rapids and DAV Chapter #18 of Big Rapids, where he had served as Post Commander. In his spare time, Alvin enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by daughters; Linda, Lisa, Karen and Kay; sons, Tim, Paul and Al (Tracy) Torry of Big Rapids; brothers, Bill (Jane) Torry of Big Rapids, Dale Torry of Georgia and a sister, Betty Pontz; also surviving are several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, sisters and a brother. A memorial service will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2018 at the Daggett Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with the family greeting friends one hour prior to services. There will be military honors under the auspices of the United States Army and the Big Rapids American Legion Post 98 honor guard. Memorial contributions in Alvin Torrys memory may be made to either DAV Chapter #18 or American Legion Post 98, both of Big Rapids.
