Alvah "Jr." Metcalf, age 83 of Chippewa Lake, passed away unexpectedly at his home, Wednesday, May 23, 2007. He was born May 24, 1923 in Remus to Alvah L. and Jessie Mae (Hetherington) Metcalf. Jr. attended Barryton Rural Agricultural High School. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army serving during World War II. Following the service, Jr. moved to Chippewa Lake to make his home where he worked as a heavy equipment operator and a truck driver. He is survived by: 5 children: Janice Maxwell of Paris, Dan (Leona) Metcalf of Mulliken, Terri (John) Bloomquist of Big Rapids, Larry Metcalf of Rodney, Denise Middleton of Mecosta 11 grandchildren: Troy (Kathy) Maxwell, Lisa (Darin) Cummings, Travis (Lisa) Metcalf, Tracie (Cam) Hatfield, Joshua (Bobbi) Bloomquist, Jarrod Bloomquist, Heather (Rich) Coby, Holly Longcor, Amie Hines, Terri Ann (Todd) Shaw, and Stephanie Clark 13 great-grandchildren A sister-in-law: Nelda Metcalf of Rodney and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 30th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. The family will greet friends on Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan P. Wheatlake Women's Cancer and Wellness Fund.
