Althera "Kay" Blondin, age 76 of Canadian Lakes, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, October 15, 2014 while she was hiking in Yellowstone National Park. She was born February 22, 1938 in Bay City. Kay was of Lutheran Faith. She was a graduate of T.L. Handy High School. Kay retired from American Seating Corporation and was currently the secretary of the board for the AAC Credit Union. She was also a breast cancer survivor. Kay was a mother, companion, friend, and adventurer. She was a golf enthusiast and a member of the Canadian Lakes Ryder Cup Golf Team. Kay enjoyed traveling and was an amazing cook. She loved her family and spending time with them. Kay will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched. She is survived by her companion, Richard "Dick" Shumacker of Canadian Lakes; two children, Jeffrey (Rachel) Blondin of TN and Valerie (Brian) Parsons of FL; Richard's daughters, Gayetta (Geoff) Preston of IN, Ann (Scott) Schilling of IN and Pamela (Phil) Whittenhall of IL; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will take place 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids (13985 Northland Drive) with Pastor Bruce Peterson officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Kay's name may be made to Susan G.
