Obituary

Allen Lee Hyder, age 66, of Millbrook entered into the presence of His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at his home surrounded by family. Al had been in failing health over the past seven years, losing a valiant battle against cancer. He was born July 27, 1948 in Mt. Pleasant to Albert and Marjory (Diehl) Hyder. He grew up in the Remus area, graduated from Remus Consolidated High School in 1966 and retired from Dow Chemical in Midland in 2001. Al was an ordained Elder in the Free Methodist denomination for 21 years, serving Millbrook, Caldwell, and Meauwataka churches, retiring in 2012 due to health reasons. Al married Helen "Ilene" Brigner on November 17, 1984. He loved gardening, both flowers and vegetables. Al also enjoyed tractors and had a large collection of miniature ones. His hobbies included: fishing, woodworking, a backyard bird sanctuary and scrabble. He was known for his fabulous homemade popcorn. Al is survived by his wife of 30 years, Ilene Hyder of Millbrook; children, Daryl (Joleen) Brigner of Barryton, Delbert Brigner of Barryton, Lucy (Greg) Bolter of Grandville, Wendy (Mike) Diebel of Romulus, Christopher (Terry) Hyder of Amesbury, Mass.; 11 grandchildren, Daryl (Katie) Brigner of Damascus, MD, Bryan (Nicole) Brigner of Burtonsville, MD, Brad (Amber) Brigner of Barryton, Arianna (Ryan) Powers of Ann Arbor, Mark (Courtney) Diebel of Yakutat, Alaska, Joshua Bolter of Grandville; his mother Marjory Hyder of Remus; three sisters, Nancy Hyder of Remus, Cathy (Clinton) VanOrden of Mt. Pleasant, and Emily (Ken) Wolfe of Bronson; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Al was preceded in death by his father, Albert Hyder; daughter, Denise Hyder; and two grandchildren, Albert James and Measha Diebel. A Homegoing Celebration will be held at the Lighthouse Free Methodist Church in Barryton on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Broomfield Township Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 5-8p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday from 1-2p.m. at Church. Memorials in Allen's name can be made to the Millbrook Free Methodist Church or Woodland Hospice. Cremation has taken place through the care of Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton.
