Alice May (Criswell) Davis, 95 years old of Morley, went to meet her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 8, 2021. She was born on December 3, 1925 to Carris and Daisy May (Mansfield) Criswell. Alice married Robert M. Davis in 1945 and moved to Stanwood in 1947, where they proceeded to raise seven children. Alice was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother. She was skilled at crochet and made intricate doilies and blankets, and she was a good cook. Alice was spirited and strong-willed. After her husband passed away in 1988, Alice learned how to drive so she could participate in activities such as volunteering at Project Starburst in Big Rapids, where she was honored with Volunteer of the Year award from the VFW Post 4249 in Big Rapids for her 7 years of service. She always had a loving word and an opinion about everything. At family gatherings, she was known as "The General". Her strength, resiliency and positive attitude will always be an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Davis; her daughter and son-in-law, Aleta and Frank Starr; her son, Carris Davis; and her great grandchildren Alia Davis and Anthony Davis. Alice is survived by her children: Larry and Sheila Davis of Newburgh, Indiana; Peggy and Victor Rempalski of Grand Rapids; Robert Lee and Cindy Davis of White Pigeon; Linda and Kenneth Whipple of Morley; and Gary Davis and Sue Ianniello of Tonasket, Washington. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson. Alice will be sadly missed by all who loved her. A special "Thank You" is extended to her daughter and caregiver, Linda Whipple, son-in-law Kenneth Whipple, her great-granddaughter Megan Colbert and the loving care team from Spectrum Health Hospice. Funeral services for Alice will take place 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Ron White officiating. The family will greet friends two hours prior to the service (11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) on Saturday at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Stanwood Cemetery.
