Alfred A. Fowler age 97 of Hersey passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at his home. He was born in Gladwin County on October 15, 1909 the son of Austin and Bessie (Hullinger) Fowler. Alfred married Eleanor Cheney on June 12, 1937 at her parent's house near Ithaca. They made their home near Ashley where he was a farmer as well as factory worker. Upon retirement from Motor Wheel in 1971 he built a home on the Muskegon River near Hersey. Alfred had a love for the outdoors and was an environmentalist before his time. Being a practical man he enjoyed hunting and had a deep love for family especially the little ones. Alfred is survived by his wife of almost 70 years Eleanor of Hersey, three loving daughters who remember their dad as being a gentle soul; Ruth (Howard) Crowell of Hersey, Alice (Ron) Selfridge of Chippewa Lake and Susan (Tom) Fabus of Hersey, eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family is very appreciative for the caregivers who took excellent care of Alfred for the past couple of years. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two daughters Margaret (Bob) Tanner and Jane, two brothers and two sisters. Memorial donations in Alfred's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Hospice of Michigan. A memorial service for Alfred will take place 11:00 AM Saturday, August 4, 2007 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Larry Nichols officiating.
