Alfred L. Drews 53, of Big Rapids, passed away at home on February 8, 2013 while surrounded by family and friends. He was born March 20, 1959 the son of Robert Drews and Mary (Routley) Drews. Alfred married Laurie Glazier June 27, 1981. After graduation Alfred joined the United States Navy, serving his country faithfully for 20 years. After retirement they made their home in Big Rapids where Alfred was employed by Gilbert's Floor Covering until his cancer diagnosis. After his first love- his family, Alfred loved the outdoors, long walks, bald eagles, tigers, and most of all Michigan football "GO BLUE". He is survived by his loving wife Laurie; son, Fredrick, daughter-in-law, Katie, and granddaughter, Ava. Also surviving are his mother, Mary Belle Drews; brother, Richard (Jan) Drews; sister, Sandy Drews; sister-in-law, Kathy Drews; father-in-law, Floyd (Janice) Glazier; brother-in-law, Carl Glazier; long time best friends Pete and Brenda Winter and family; beloved Aunt Patricia Glazier; and many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Alfred was preceded in death by his father Robert; a brother, Chris, and mother-in-law, Lordine Glazier. Family will greet friends on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. A luncheon will be immediately following at the Green Township Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Alfred's name may be left at the funeral home.
