Obituary

Alfonso Chasseur, age 82 lifelong resident of Big Rapids, passed away Monday, December 19, 2011 at his home. He was born May 28, 1929 in Big Rapids the son of Firmin and Anna (Peglio) Chasseur. Alfonso married Lorraine Waskowicz at St. Mary's Catholic Church in 1956. As a young man Alfonso worked in construction. He helped build many of the buildings on the Ferris State University Campus and also the St. Mary's bell tower. Alfonso later went to work for Hanchett Manufacturing and retired as the shipping foreman. He was a devout member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Big Rapids. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years Lorraine; two children, Karen Chasseur and Michael (Josie) Chasseur; and 2 granddaughters, Jennie and Melanie Chasseur all of Big Rapids; a twin sister, Delphine Lyons of Grand Rapids; a brother Emmanuel Chasseur of Washington State; several nieces and nephews and his Goddaughter, Kathy (Tom) Rea of Florida. Besides his parents, Alfonso was preceded in death by four brothers; Ernest Chasseur, Frank Chasseur, Rudolph Chasseur and Martin Chiado; five sisters, Jennie Chiado, Katie Lirones, Serena Showers, Madeline Perret and Ernestine Lirones. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 21st at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Big Rapids with Father Lam T. Le officiating. The family will greet friends, at the church, on Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. until Mass at 5:00 p.m. Burial will be held Thursday at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Big Rapids. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
