Obituary

Aletha N. Coon, age 92 of Paris, MI, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 16, 2016. She was born January 26, 1924 in Marne, MI the daughter of Earl and Florence (Fields) Starks. She married Gordon Coon and together they made their home in Ionia and moved to the Big Rapids area where they lived for over 70 years.

Aletha was a busy mother of four, who enjoyed outdoor work better than indoor work. She was a gardener and flower enthusiast, sharing her knowledge with family, friends and neighbors. She grew a bountiful vegetable garden and loved to share. Aletha enjoyed hunting with her husband Gordon. She was a member of the home extension in Paris and had attended the Paris United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her four children, Earl (Marlene) Coon of Reed City, Joyce (Tom) Lanway of Alpena, Margaret Jobes of Reed City, Thelma (Howard) Richmond of Reed City; 11 grandchildren, Dean Coon, Susan (Rod) Broad, Ty Lanway, Julie Lanway, Lonny (Jacqui) Lanway, Rory Lanway, Tom Rohe, Dan (Julie) Rohe, Tim Rohe, Jayne Richmond, Jennifer (Matt) Wein; 10 Great-Grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Donna Bevins of Grand Rapids, Lois Allen of Detroit, Alabama and many nieces and nephews.

Aletha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gordon Coon, a sister, Dorothy Holtzlander and 7 brothers, Ray, Howard, Ivan, Earl, Gordon, Bob and Leonard Starks.

Funeral services will take place at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with burial at Crapo Cemetery, Meceola Road, Paris. The family will greet friends two hours prior to services at the funeral home on Saturday. (visitation 11:00 a.m. to services at 1:00 p.m.)

Memorial contributions in Alethas name may be made to Great Lakes Caring Hospice or Evergreen Terrace in Big Rapids.
