Dr.Alex Markey, age 90, loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather died peacefully in his home near Big Rapids, Michigan on Thursday evening, May 21st 2009. Born in Hungary, he immigrated to Detroit as a young child with his parents, Alexander and Julia, a sister Charlotte (Steinberger) and a brother Frank, all of whom predeceased him. All three graduated from Wayne State University School of Medicine. Brothers, Al and Frank, were partners in a successful medical practice in Dearborn, Michigan for over 30 years. Al married Vera Frank of Big Rapids, in 1947 and had 6 children, Alex Jr., Robert (Lynn), James (Jalayne), Thomas, Jon (Barbara) and Anne (Paul Asker). He is survived by his wife, 5 children, 7 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Al was an avid golfer, card player and outdoorsman. He had a deep appreciation of nature, enjoying the birds and other wildlife, especially on the property they retired to several years ago in rural Big Rapids. A Funeral Mass will be held 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Farmington, Michigan. Memorial contributions in Al's name may be made to Hospice of Michigan, Big Rapids or the Michigan Parkinson Foundation.
