Adeline MacKersie, age 96 of Barryton, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, August 2, 2013 at Altercare of Big Rapids. She was born on January 27, 1917 in Sears, MI to George and Catherine (Matthews) Benjamin. Adeline graduated from Barryton Rural Agricultural High School in 1935 where she was the class secretary. Adeline moved to Barryton where she worked as a switchboard operator for the telephone company and was employed at Soper's Department Store. At age 40 she went to M.J. Murphy Beauty School in Mt. Pleasant where she earned her beautician license. Adeline established, owned and operated Adeline's Beauty Salon in Barryton, retiring at age 75. Adeline attended Faith United Methodist Church in Barryton. She was an avid Detroit Pistons Fan, made braided rugs, was a wonderful gardener and an accomplished seamstress. Adeline will always be remembered as a loving and hardworking mother who was dedicated to her family. She is survived by her five children; Marilyn (Carl) DeLong of Barryton, Blaine of Cadillac, Bryce (Deb), Kent (Becky), Mitchell (Sandra) all of Barryton; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Adeline was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harland; daughter-in-law Gloria MacKersie; one grand-daughter, Heather Martin; four brothers, Leonard, Morris, Earl and James Benjamin; and two sisters, Anna Soper Lowery and Emaline Benjamin. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 6th at the Daggett Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with Pastor Joe Beavan officiating. Interment will be at Flake Cemetery.
