Ada J. Mahaffey, age 74 of Stanwood, passed away Thursday, May 03, 2012 at Butterworth - Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids. A lifelong long resident of Mecosta County, Ada was a graduate of Big Rapids High School. She worked for Wolverine World Wide for over 20 years, retiring in 2000. Ada was member of American Legion Post #98 Women's Auxiliary of Big Rapids. She will always be remembered as truly enjoying life by her friends and family whose members include her nine children; Thomas Arndt of Albuquerque, NM, Mary Kilbourne of Ovett, MS, Ruthann Bowers of Big Rapids, Pauline Arndt of Stanwood, Brian (Sally) Arndt of Vincent, AL, Lisa Arndt of Stanwood, Sarah (Thomas Welch) Mahaffey of Big Rapids, Paul Mahaffey of Battle Creek, Brenda (Chris Frankenfield) Mahaffey of Mecosta; adopted daughter, Penny Alger of Stanwood; a brother, Jim (Pauline) Mursch of Florida; a sister Arlene (Phil) Gibbons of Brighton; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Ada was preceded in death by five brothers, Russell, Don, Ralph, bill and Charles Mursch and two sisters, Annie Stricker and Beatrice Starr. A memorial luncheon will take place in Ada's honor at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, May 6th at the Colfax Township Hall, located on M-20 near Clear Lake. A private family interment will take place at Pine Plains Cemetery in Big Rapids at a later date.
